A new search tool has been added to the Proceedings/Newsletters Page of the website. We hope that this will be the first of many such tools aimed to make documents more accessible.
After several months of work the group now have a new website. Included in the new site is an easy to spot next meeting box on the home page, all of the Proceedings and Newsletters going back to 1986 in text searchable format, a comprehensive range of published and un-published historical material written over the years, including a range of work by Trevor Fawcett and, soon to be added, the full set of the Survey of Old Bath... We hope that our members and visitors will like the new look and find the added material of use and delight.
A panel portrait of Henry VIII was given to the Victoria Art Gallery in 1916 by Captain Frederick Henry Huth (1844-1918). This portrait of Henry VIII was derived from Holbein the Younger’s group portrait of Henry, his parents and his wife Jane Seymour. At the request of the Keeper of Collections, FOVAG funded infra-red and dendrochronological examinations of the picture and the results suggest that the picture is much older than previously supposed.
